CANADIAN CRAFTSMANSHIP AND ITALIAN AESTHETICS AT THEIR FINEST
A traditional kitchen is known for its charm, grandeur and style. We addressed five elements of such a kitchen design in a previous blog. But what if you want to alter your current design into something more traditional? Remodeling is the way to go in this case. In this blog, Nima Kitchens, a prominent kitchen manufacturer based in Vaughan, shares seven remodeling tips you should consider today to achieve a classic traditional kitchen.
Most modern or contemporary kitchens feature furniture or pieces with no defined period style. Remove them altogether as traditional kitchens are all about vintage elements and designs. Replace the modern furniture with something more classy and complement it with embellishments like crown mouldings and trim. Consider an eclectic mix of furniture reflecting your personality and character.
Don’t make flooring an afterthought. In lieu of classic tiles, go for some intriguing patterns, such as a basket weave or add random wood patterns to create texture. Or go for something simpler such as limestone, whose natural irregularities add an effortless charming vibe to the space. You can even experiment with a pattern of limestone and slate to get the best of both worlds.
When it comes to seating, look for classic chairs with curved legs, columns or turnings, as they really bring out the traditional aesthetic. Add these chairs along with a vintage table to create your cozy breakfast nook, if you can afford the space. In either case, adding such tasteful seating further adds to the overall traditional kitchen design.
Since minimalist, pastel colours are not the norm in a traditional kitchen, you can go all out with hues. Bring in some intriguing hues in your kitchen space via curtains and cushions. Make sure to choose natural scenes and pair them with stripes and not complex geometric shapes, as the latter will stand out sorely.
There is no uniform focal point in a traditional kitchen design scheme, so don’t shy away from experimenting. Add different materials, designs and colours for your kitchen cabinet knobs. You can get creative with the cabinets themselves by experimenting with different wood stains and paints.
Clean lines and streamlined design are features of a contemporary kitchen, not a traditional kitchen. Replace minimalist fixtures in your space such as faucets and lighting with something with more shape and detail. For instance, gooseneck faucets and sconce lighting are both excellent choices for a traditional kitchen.
Texture and natural beauty are the focus of traditional kitchens, and lacquer, veneer and laminates break this illusion due to their smooth texture and glossy finish. Although practical, they are ill-fitted for this design, so try to avoid these materials or minimize their use at the very least.
